Have you ever wondered about Saturday during Easter Weekend? \u00a0There are events that lead up to the resurrection of Jesus. \u00a0 We have named the days: \u00a0Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday.<\/p>\n
What happened Saturday?<\/p>\n
Nothing.<\/p>\n
We are not told anything about Saturday. \u00a0That long day between Jesus’ death and resurrection.<\/p>\n
I imagine we are not told anything because those who followed Jesus could not do<\/em><\/strong> anything.<\/p>\n There may be something to be learned here.<\/p>\n When tragedy strikes we are stunned. \u00a0We are left with questions like: \u00a0What do we do now?<\/p>\n What do we DO<\/strong><\/em> now?<\/p>\n When we are in pain and grieving, we often begin to move fast, to occupy ourselves with something.<\/p>\n The followers of Jesus couldn’t do that.<\/p>\n It was the Sabbath. \u00a0The day of rest.<\/p>\n There were very clear restrictions on what activity was permitted before it began to be “work”. \u00a0Work was not permitted.<\/p>\n The day after Jesus was killed, his followers \u00a0could not do anything. \u00a0They made sure his body was in a grave before the Sabbath, before the sun set Friday night. \u00a0And then they couldn’t do anything.<\/p>\n They couldn’t properly prepare his body.<\/p>\n They couldn’t run.<\/p>\n They couldn’t lose themselves in work.<\/p>\n They had to be still. \u00a0Be still. \u00a0Rest. \u00a0Wait.<\/p>\n They didn’t know what was coming next.<\/p>\n I sense this was very carefully orchestrated by God. \u00a0Jesus’ friends experienced the worst tragedy. \u00a0They suffered the death of the one they loved, \u00a0the one they followed, the one they had put their hope in. \u00a0The one they may have dared to believe was more than just a man like them.<\/p>\n He is dead. \u00a0Now what?<\/p>\n Now nothing. \u00a0It is the Sabbath. \u00a0Rest. \u00a0Be still.<\/p>\n Silent Saturday.<\/p>\n It is something to think about the next time you experience the worst possible thing. \u00a0When you find yourself asking: What do I do now? \u00a0Maybe the initial answer should be…nothing.<\/p>\n I imagine that is what Jesus’ friends did Saturday. \u00a0Nothing. \u00a0Just stayed together, quietly, being scared, sad.<\/p>\n Remember, they had no idea what Sunday was bringing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Have you ever wondered about Saturday during Easter Weekend? \u00a0There are events that lead up to the resurrection of Jesus. \u00a0 We have named the days: \u00a0Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday.
