Miss America contestants know what they<\/em> want…<\/p>\n

Miss Utah?\u00a0 World Peace.<\/p>\n

Miss Michigan?\u00a0 World Peace.<\/p>\n

Miss New York?\u00a0 World Peace.<\/p>\n

We hear them and we roll our eyes.\u00a0 Yea, yea, yea, good answer.<\/p>\n

Perhaps you also know the right<\/em> thing to say when you are asked what you want?\u00a0 You know how to answer in an unselfish way.<\/p>\n

Or perhaps you are beyond wanting a special talent or a specific object?\u00a0 Perhaps your wants go deeper?\u00a0 Is your desire something that pains you?\u00a0 Is there something you want above all else?<\/p>\n

I’ve told this story before, but in 1988 I miscarried our second child.\u00a0 I left the hospital wanting my unborn child.\u00a0\u00a0 When I got home I wanted my one and a half year old daughter.\u00a0 I wanted to take her in my arms and hug her and love her.\u00a0 She wanted scissors.<\/p>\n

God showed me in that moment that in the same way that Anne was looking beyond me and the love I was offering, to cry after scissors, I was looking past Him for what I wanted.<\/p>\n

Throw yourself upon God’s lap, and pour out the desires of your heart, the deepest thoughts, the things that grieve your heart.\u00a0 Tell him what you want, what you desire.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But don’t jump up from his lap when you have spent your emotion.\u00a0 Don’t leave after you have poured out your heart.<\/p>\n

Wait.<\/p>\n

Want doesn’t just mean “desire”.\u00a0 As in- I want<\/em> the scissors.\u00a0 It also can mean something is lacking, or deficient, missing.\u00a0 As in- All the document is wanting<\/em> is his signature.<\/p>\n

Stay in God’s lap and let Him teach you what you lack, let Him teach you to want Him, to trust Him.<\/p>\n

God says all you are wanting<\/em> is Me.<\/p>\n

Want<\/em> Me.<\/p>\n
