I just went grocery shopping and purchased my “last supper”. \u00a0A truly bizarre combination of things that taste good to me right now. \u00a0Not much of it is food.<\/p>\n
Multi-grain scoop chips with Mexicali dip. \u00a0Had this Saturday night with friends and it tasted like more! \u00a0Then my favorite cookies- Lofthouse, the big soft cookies with frosting? \u00a0Yeah, lemon flavor. \u00a0(Not much food there.) \u00a0And finally ice cream sandwhiches- neopolitan, only because there weren’t any mint chip.<\/p>\n
And there you go, my incredibly lame choices for my last foods before I undergo a clear liquid fast Tuesday for some minor surgery Wednesday.<\/p>\n
So much for last supper, any last words? \u00a0Besides, *urp*?<\/p>\n
What would I want to say if I knew it would be my last chance?<\/p>\n
To my family: it might be better if you didn’t read my journals. \u00a0Many of them are my side of conversations between me and God. \u00a0They can resemble the psalms, lots<\/strong><\/em> of emotion, but somehow the psalms are easier to take because you don’t actually know the people involved. \u00a0So you can just identify with the emotion rather than wondering, What did she mean by that<\/em><\/strong>?<\/p>\n
That said, what would I really<\/em><\/strong> want you to know?<\/p>\n
I love you.<\/p>\n
I say that. \u00a0A lot. \u00a0Some people may overhear me saying that and wonder if I really mean it, or if it is more like the greating: \u00a0“How are you?” \u00a0“Fine thanks, you?”<\/p>\n
Love you.<\/p>\n
Nope. \u00a0If I said it, I meant it. \u00a0I say it a lot so on the chance they are<\/strong><\/em> my last words to you, well, you will remember me saying it and maybe will still be able to hear it in your head for a while. \u00a0That’s a tape worth playing over and over.<\/p>\n
I love you.<\/p>\n
And the only other thing worth saying is this…<\/p>\n
God loves you. \u00a0A whole lot better than I do.<\/p>\n
That whole Bible thing? \u00a0Jesus? \u00a0Forgiveness?<\/p>\n
Yeah, I buy it, hook, line and sinker.<\/p>\n
It’s true. \u00a0It really is.<\/p>\n
If you believe that, then may I say to you: please live it. \u00a0Please follow in Jesus’ footsteps, loving God and loving people. \u00a0That’s how you will be known to be a follower of Jesus, by your love. \u00a0Do what is right without giving way to fear.<\/p>\n
If you are skeptical let me say this: talk to God. \u00a0Seriously. \u00a0Talk to him. \u00a0And the folks you know who profess to follow Jesus? \u00a0Well, don’t throw God out with the bath water. \u00a0We followers can be pretty lame, frequently, about living what we believe to be true. \u00a0For a lot of reasons.<\/p>\n
Doesn’t change what is true.<\/p>\n
And this is what’s true…<\/p>\n
I love you.<\/p>\n
God loves you more.<\/p>\n
