According to the old saying, these are the two things you can be certain of…<\/p>\n
Death.<\/p>\n
And taxes.<\/p>\n
I”ve been working in taxes for weeks now and what I<\/em><\/strong> know for certain is that our taxes don’t make any sense.\u00a0 You would be amazed where your tax dollars go.\u00a0 You might think your tax dollars pay for things we need like military, roads, social security.\u00a0 You might think they pay for too much government.\u00a0 Did you have any idea that some of your taxes go to me?\u00a0 Our tax dollars pay<\/strong><\/em> people to work, to have kids, to put said kids in college.\u00a0 Taxes might be a certainty but they don’t make any sense.<\/p>\n Yet there is something else that is certain.\u00a0 God.<\/p>\n Though, he doesn’t make any sense either.\u00a0 And for a similar reason.\u00a0 It doesn’t make sense what he pays for.\u00a0 He pays the debt of my garbage, so I can be righteous.<\/p>\n Mind you he doesn’t pay my debt because<\/strong><\/em> I’m righteous, or because I deserve it.\u00a0 He pays it so that I can be<\/strong><\/em> righteous.\u00a0 He makes a trade.\u00a0 And he cleans up the mess: the mess my, your, Adam’s garbage made of the world.\u00a0 It doesn’t make any sense.<\/p>\n While the craziness of our tax system frustrates me, the craziness of God’s grace relieves me.<\/p>\n I have to pay my taxes.<\/p>\n I could never pay my debt to God.<\/p>\n April 18 is coming.\u00a0 That’s the deadline for filing and paying your taxes.<\/p>\n April 24 is coming too.\u00a0 That’s the anniversary of Jesus paying our debt.\u00a0 Of Jesus demonstrating that the one certain thing is God.\u00a0 God and God’s plan, God’s grace, God’s sovereignty.<\/p>\n Thank you God.\u00a0 Thank you and help me to tell people more about my gratitude for your senseless gift than I do about our senseless taxes.<\/p>\n Because after taxes, and after death, there will still be Jesus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Death.\u00a0 Taxes.
