Are you a baker?\u00a0 I am not.\u00a0 The few cookie cutters I own are used for decoration on my kitchen windowsill at Christmas.\u00a0 We may have used them to make cookies.\u00a0 Once.<\/p>\n

That used to bother.\u00a0 I had a preconceived idea of what made a good homemaker\/mother.\u00a0 Baking and cooking were high on the list.\u00a0 And since they were not high on my talent list I felt like a bad mom\/homemaker.<\/p>\n

I received a piece of wisdom a very long time ago that helped me reshape my idea of a good homemaker\/mother, it was this:\u00a0 You have special interests and talents.\u00a0 Share those with your kids.\u00a0 Those<\/em><\/strong> will be the memories you make together.<\/p>\n

What are my special interests?\u00a0 At the time they were reading and photography.\u00a0 So that’s what I did with my kids…we read books.\u00a0 A LOT.\u00a0 I love to read!\u00a0 I could read all day, I will read anything.\u00a0 So we did.<\/p>\n

And I took pictures and they took pictures and we would get the pictures developed (back in the day) and then sometimes the photos even made it into scrapbooks and albums.\u00a0 Mostly they are in boxes, but we have them.<\/p>\n

So this is my encouragement to you…do what you love with your kids.\u00a0 Moms are not cookie cutters, we are not all made the same shape\/size or with identical interests\/talents.<\/p>\n

Do you like to clean?\u00a0 Involve your kids.\u00a0 Bake?\u00a0 Cook?\u00a0 Invite them to join you.\u00a0 Read?\u00a0 Sing?\u00a0 Play an instrument? Draw?\u00a0 Paint?\u00a0 Repair things?<\/p>\n

I learned sign language and taught my kids as I went.\u00a0 It was great to have a “secret” language in which I could reprimand them without anyone knowing!<\/p>\n

Whatever you do, invite your kids in, share what makes you special with them.<\/p>\n
